22 July 2016 – Back at the National Training Centre
John Francis is back at the National Training Centre for a two week stint – all part of his TICA Apprenticeship.
Following placements at Linear Insulation Ltd in Nottingham and Gateshead’s Gads Insulation Services Ltd, John’s spent the past four months working on the new Akzo Nobel Project Fresco site at Ashington for CGB Humbertherm.
“It’s so clear to me that getting quality training is vital. All of the guys on site are time served – you can see this in the standard of the work. As time’s gone on I’ve been improving my skills and being able to take on more complex tasks with less supervision. As the weeks have passed, the work has been gradually getting more difficult. I have now been trusted to be able to fit flange and valve boxes. After being shown the ropes and how to do it, I then had a few goes whilst being close to my seniors making sure I got it right.
I also worked with William, another apprentice to fit a box and a four piece straight – with several cut outs. We also had the job of fitting the mats and flange boxes. We did it so well that the onsite manager took pictures of the work, which was a nice surprise!”
Following his fortnight in the TICA workshop and classroom, John will be heading off to Western Thermal Ltd and JS Miller Distribution Ltd to work on H&V projects in London and Leeds.
