Asbestos New Operative

CITB levy payer? The New Operative course is part of our fully funded Specialist Apprenticeship Programme.

This three day course is aimed at candidates who intend to work as asbestos removal operatives and who have no previous experience of asbestos removal. The course includes a combination of theory and practical training, providing candidates with the knowledge and skills needed to carry out asbestos removal.

Topics covered during theoretical training include: legislation, decontamination and transit procedures, site clearance and air testing, waste management, emergency procedures and fault finding. Topics covered during practical training include: use and maintenance of RPE, enclosures and airlock construction, NPU attachment, smoke testing and waste removal and controlled stripping techniques.

Candidates require trunks/shorts, towel and a spare pair of socks (for decontamination procedure).

No prior experience is required. On successful completion of a short multiple-choice exam, candidates receive an ACAD training record card and certificate, which are valid for a year.

Asbestos Operative Refresher

Members: £153 + VAT

CITB Levy payer? The Operative Refresher course is part of our fully funded Specialist Upskilling Programme.

This one day course is aimed at asbestos removal operatives who hold a current training record card and certificate and are due for annual refresher training. The course includes revision of the theory element of operative training, updates on new legislation and changes to working practices.

Training Needs Analysis (TNA) must be undertaken by the delegate’s line manager prior to the course. This allows tutors to consider areas where delegates need revision. On successful completion of a short multiple choice exam, candidates receive an ACAD training record card and certificate which are valid for a year.

New Supervisor (3 days)

This course is for experienced and trained asbestos removal operatives considered capable of becoming asbestos removal supervisors. It involves a combination of theory and practical training, providing candidates with the knowledge and skills required to supervise asbestos removal projects and operatives.

Category B Bulk Sampling

This one day course allows workers, who are likely to take samples of suspect asbestos-containing materials, to do so safely and in line with best practice.

Topics covered include: risk assessment formula required to undertake a Material Assessment, how to take the right amount of sample, the dangers of cross contamination and the problems and pitfalls of bulk sampling.

Asbestos Awareness

 £55 + VAT
Asbestos Awareness training is aimed at maintenance workers such as plumbers, electricians and builders, who are likely to come across asbestos in the course of their work. Training gives candidates a safe working knowledge of the appropriate action to take on finding asbestos.

This half day course looks at asbestos and its uses, health and medical monitoring, legislation, personal protective equipment, health hazards and emergencies, personal hygiene, asbestos waste and instruction and training.

On successful completion of a multiple choice exam paper, candidates receive an ACAD training certificate.

Places are limited to a maximum of 20 per session.

Non-licensable work with Asbestos including NNLW (Category B)

This one day course is aimed at staff who are likely to handle materials outside the scope of licensing. The training is a half-day theory session followed by a short, multiple choice assessment paper.

The second half of the day covers practical training, including safe fitting and removal of masks and overalls, bagging waste and, where necessary, safe construction of a decontamination airlock.
